The Prague Castle complex, standing sentinel on a hill overlooking the city, is the largest in the world. As such, UNESCO has named Prague’s entire Old Town as a World Heritage site. And yet, Prague isn’t just some kind of architectural Disneyland. It is an increasingly modern city, with all the creature comforts of Anytown USA.
This synagogue was one of the most important and largest of the Prague synagogues. Today, as part of the Prague Jewish Museum, it houses an exhibit on Jewish traditions. I just skimmed the displays, since most of the objects were familiar to me, but it would be useful for anyone who doesn’t know the basics of Jewish rituals and beliefs.
It is also a great time to explore one of Prague’s many gorgeous parks. June, July, and August are high season for Prague tourism so you can expect higher prices and larger crowds during these months. Cracking day out, Michal our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and willing to explain in good English. Pick up from hotel in Prague was on time and a comfortable modern minivan trip to Bastei took about 1.5 hours. Bastei bridge was very scenic if a little high and Michael explained all about the castle very well.
8 a.m.: Get up early, grab a quick breakfast from your hotel or a bakery, and head straight to Prague Castle to beat the long lines and crowds. You will have to go through a security check to get into the castle complex so check ahead of time to make sure you aren’t carrying any of the forbidden items.
