Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM review. Technical testing revealed slight colour fringing at the shortest focal lengths, which was a disappointment, but in all other respects the results were outstanding. Resolution peaked above 0.4 cycles-per-pixel and the MTF curves never once fell below the critical 0.25 cycles-per-pixel threshold.
The 24-105 L is shown above mounted on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. I am sure that many Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L Lens owners will also have a 24-105mm L in their kit. Indoor event photographers will *probably* select the 24-70 L while landscape/outdoor, travel and portrait photographers might prefer the 24-105 L.

Just to see what it could do I shot a scrimmage game with it and kind of liked the results. It took a bit of getting used to after using a 70-200 f2.8. I used the 24-70 f2.8 last weekend to shoot an actual game. The focus is at least as fast and accurate as the 70-200 and its performance under the rim is better than the 70-200.

This 24-70 is supremely sharp from edge-to-edge at 36 megapixels even wide-open at f/2.8, period. While the old 24-70mm f/2.8G (2007-2015) looked great when shot on the 12 MP cameras that were state-of-the-art when it was introduced in 2007, today on modern cameras this new E and VR lens is clearly superior.

This is my 24-70 wide open with 5D MKI indoor bad light. Had lens since early 06. By the way I just shot an entire wedding with it & I am very happy with the photos. I love my copy.
